"The
Gospel According to Austin vol. 2 - Malford Milligan & Friends"
(a non-profit Compilation CD)
The purpose
of this CD is 3 fold:
Raise funds for non-profits that benefit musician's (profits divided
25% for musicians medical needs; 25% to be determined in the future).
Expose our rich
gospel music heritage, reminding ourselves of the foundation it laid
for the current Austin music we enjoy.
Help preserve
"roots Gospel music" by getting it into the street where it can be
appreciated by the masses (50% of profits go to this GAA Project to
help produce more of this music).
This
CD is intended to be a celebration of traditional, undiluted Gospel
music of all genre's -- much like the Grand Ol' Opry celebrates great
Country & Western music of all types. Many of the musicians contained
herein are Christian believers, some have other faiths, and some may
not know what they are. But they all understand they have been given
a gift, and they all relished this opportunity to give it back unreservedly,
in the finest Gospel tradition.
Because
Austin is a "live Music capital of the World" , there is a large number
of musicians and fans who are well schooled in appreciating the diversity
of great live music forms. And most of these people love great Gospel
music… moving, sweaty, spiritual, soulful, gritty, broken, joyful,
rockin', real, spontaneous Gospel music. As Gurf Morlix put it, "we
love playing this old gospel music cause it's just so alive."
The
music contained on this CD (and future CD's) will be Gospel based
songs representing a broad spectrum of musical styles, each performed
by a different musician or group with an Austin presence. We explore
a spectrum of the Gospel roots of Austin's current musical fabric
in this compilation… Black Gospel, Country, Blues, R&B, Tejano, mostly
agrarian influenced. This CD embraces Gospel music's diversity, and
extends it across the many boundaries of race, religion, genre, and
geography. And in the finest Austin tradition, it is eclectic.
"This
gospel's so convincing, even a Jewish guy like me is hooked… Hallelujah!"
-- Jody Denberg, Program Director KGSR 107.1fm Austin, TX
"It's
so powerful and positive that it just grabs you." -- Malford
Milligan
"…it's
music that sticks to your soul"-- Chester Baldwin, Mount Sinai
Baptist Choir
We
call it "kick-butt Gospel" because it gives folks a
liftin' & the devil a kickin'. Whatever you decide to call it, Austin
loves to hear it at a Gospel Brunch, or at a Sunday service.
This
is not intended to be a "religious" CD in the vein of typical Christian
music. The artists and cuts selected intentionally represent a broad-brush
of secular and church musicians from the Austin area. We only asked
the musicians to play this music with all of their heart, all of their
talent, and to simply pour it out honestly.
We
hope that we can count on your support for this unique project. And
please let us hear from you with any questions or comments.
