Vol. #2 - focuses again on old-school gospel roots. It is built around the God given vocal talents of Malford Milligan -- Austin’s Male Singer of the Decade - which testify that Gospel music is the tap-root of all American “soul” music.
This CD features many leaders in Austin’s great Blues, Country, and Gospel circles. These great artists who contributed their time and talents genuinely loved helping Malford cover greats like Rev Gary Davis, Blind Willie Johnson, Sam Cooke, Rev Al Green, Rev Dan Smith, Rev Alex Bradford and Harlan Rogers. Vol. #3 - features the Gospelaires… a group of musicians from the Salvation Army in Austin. Most of whom “slipped through the cracks” of life and were desperate to get right with God. They have succeeded in getting right, and creating a very genuine & gritty Gospel style that harkens to the “asphalt highways” which Black Gospel, Soul, R&B quartets traveled in the rural South. Vol. #4 - focuses on the Gospel music of the South’s laboring White (agri) Culture. These roots laid the foundation for their secular cousins -- Bluegrass, Country, Swing, RockaBilly… or a confluence thereof in the finest Texas traditions. This “Live Set” features the Brennen Leigh Band.

More about the GAA Project
This project is a celebration of "Roots Gospel" music of all types and raising funds to help benefit musicians. That old, rural, gritty, sweaty, movin', shakin', broken, joyful, spontaneous, spiritual Gospel music.
The stuff that's the root of most American music genres.
The stuff that comes from folks in great need as they poured out their hearts to God, with whatever talent and instruments they had.
The stuff that's simple, non-theological, a bit rustic & rough, always honest
The stuff not played in many churches today.
"We love playing this old gospel cause it's so alive!" -- Gurf Morlix (Slaid Cleaves prodcer, Singer/Songwriter, Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizer band member)
"It's gives you a good liftin' & shakin'" - Malford Milligan (Storyville lead singer/songwriter)
"It's music that sticks to your soul" -- Chester Baldwin (Mt. Sinai Baptist music director)
"This gospel's so convincing, even a Jewish guy like me is hooked
Hallelujah!" - Jody Denberg (KGSR Program Director).
As the live Music capital of the world, Austin music folks love this great old art form of music.
We call this music "kick-butt Gospel". See if you can figure out why.
Whatever you think of it, Austin loves hearing it at gospel brunches, venues, and churches.
The "Gospel According to Austin Project" is a non-profit 501-c-3 entity whose purposes include:
Raising funds for non-profits that directly benefit musician's.
Exposing our rich gospel music heritage and the foundation it laid for all American music.
Helping to preserve "roots gospel music" by getting it into the street where it can be played, recorded, and appreciated by the masses.
We hope you enjoy this great music offered up by some of Austin's top secular and gospel musicians. They all understand they have been given a gift, and they each relish the opportunity this project gives them to "give it back" unreservedly, in the finest Gospel tradition!!
We appreciate your help or support,
